Evidence in Governance and Policy. External Consultant. (February 2019 - December 2019)
Experiences of Implementing Partners with Research Teams for Governance and Politics Initiatives.
The purpose of this project is to understand some of the challenges and compromises that civil society organizations face when they team up with academics in the Evidence in Governance and Politics (EGAP) research network. The research consists of 60-minute Skype interviews with a representative of the implementing partner team for projects the EGAP initiative has conducted in the past. We then conduct interviews with researcher teams. The results of these interviews allow EGAP to better understand the stories behind these collaborations from the civil society organization's point of view. Finally, it reinforces EGAP’s commitment to forging partnerships between researchers and practitioners committed to understanding the politics of global development, advance evidence-based policymaking, and improve the quality of empirical research in the social sciences.

Analysis on the effectiveness of the GLAC Social Lab Programs (August 2018 - August 2019)
This project analyzed the Global Leadership Academy's (GLAC) social labs for their 'phase II' labs. Each year, GLAC - a branch of the German International Development Agency - runs social labs which are aimed at improving the innovative capacity and leadership skills of decision-makers from the fields of policy-making, business, higher education and research, and civil society from the North and the South. These labs are targeted to address the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in order to influence sector-wide change. We conducted and analyze post-participation surveys, which was distributed online. The surveys consisted of five main questions and four background questions, developed in concert with GLAC per its requirements. We will analyze participant impressions and skills used/learned as they relate to achieving the SDGs. We analyzed Inclusive Insurance Lab, the Human Trafficking Lab, and the Migration Lab.
In addition, we conducted a retrospective analysis of the previous five GLAC labs in order to develop a Theory of Change for their labs and to understand their impacts at the individual, interpersonal, organizational, and systemic levels of change.
Responsibility: I was responsible for data collection, analysis, and write-up for the retrospective analysis. In addition, for the individual lab analysis, I was the primary coordinator between the GLAC and NYU teams. I was responsible for survey distribution and collection, as well as primarily responsible for the analysis of the Migration Lab. I also served as project manager for the Inclusive Insurance, and Human Trafficking Labs.
With: Dr. Elisabeth King (PI), Sorana Acris (NYU), and Amanda Blewitt (NYU)
Publication: King, E., & E. Dunlop (2018). “Analyzing GLAC’s Social Labs’ Impact – A Retrospective Analysis”. Background Paper commissioned by the GIZ German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
